Internet connection POPS UP all the time

Hello can anyone please help as when i load on my computer every few minutes a window pops up saying connect to the internet when i dont want to. Can any on help me to stop this doing that? any advice very grateful

You are loading a program at start up that wants to go to the net to run(Instant Messenger or similar)Once you figure out which program it is you can either change the options not to start with windows or eliminate it from your system start up menu using msconfig.
 
If you have trouble finding the exact program (there may be more than one), download Start Up Copy (a freebie) from

It tells you where programs load from (registry/Start up) and which programs they are. Great little tool.

If you have any Dial Up Networking accounts installed, you may also try removing them.

If that clears the problem, its usually okay to add them back.
 
If you have windows98 you can go start, then run. Type in "msconfig." Check your win.ini file--click on windows and check the "load=" statement for anything that should not be there. Click on the startup tab to look at everything else that is starting up with windows...more than likely, ...it's a virus.
