If you have a LAN card in your PC, I would suggest hooking up to it through ethernet. That's often a more reliable connection than USB, especially if your computer goes to sleep. A lot of times that will power off the USB connection, and it won't re-connect when the PC wakes up. Try this and reply to the forum...let me know if it works.
Hi I am trying to re-install the modem with the ethernet conection but i need the driver (win2k)and cannot find it on the Cd or on the manufacturers website. The modem was not really designed for use in UK, but hay it's makes it all worth while for educational purposes.
if your computer have an ethernate card installed all u have to do is unplug the modem connect the modem to the pc using a cat 5 ethernet cable plug the modem .
To check if your computer has a ethernet installed
1. right click my computer
2. click properties
3. click on the hardware tab
4. select device manager
5. click on the " + " by the hardware tab it changes to "- " and expands the list .
6. check to see if you have an ethernate adapter listed

what drivers.. your modem does not come with drivers for ethernet connection it comes with usb drivers. If your computer has a ethernet card all you have to do is connect it to the ethernet card, unplug the modem for 30 sec to clear it and release the ip for the usb connection. plug it back in wait for it to sink up and it will pick up your ethernet mac address and assign a new ip. Even better since you have win 2k pro. from the dos command type
ipconfig /release "this releases your ip address"
thanks for the info pdoug76. How do i configure my internet connection then, As the modem is not installed via usb or pci, I am not sure how i would configure the net connection.
You would open your Internet Options, either from Control Panel or from within IE, and select to connect through your LAN, and to automatically detect settings. Should connect right up, may have to do the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew as shown above.
hi finally manged to get the system to detect modem (I reset the modem) So i am back up and running. This is how it starts with win2k then eventually a few days later the connection will keep dropping
