Internet Browsing Problem after disconnecting from VPN

I have Windows XP machine that i use to connect to a VPN. I have high speed internet and everything seems to be working fine for the most part. The problem i am having is that once i disconnect from the VPN i can no longer browse the internet. While i am connected to the VPN i can browse the internet fine. The only way i can resume internet browsing is to disconnect the High speed connection and then reconnect it.
