yes, it's called BorderManager. And unlike M$'s proxy server that has holes in it, this one comes with an actuall firewall to actually protect your network.
I have a test Netware 6 sp4 environment at home with 5 clients. I previously had Windows 2000 Internet Sharing setup and that worked great (all 5 clients were able to get to the internet fine). I want to use a Netware server to do the same exact thing. The kicker is I have a broadband cable modem with Road Runner as my ISP. Road Runner will assign a dynamic IP. Is there a way to route internet traffic through my netware box without using Border Manager or NICE?
NetWare can NAT a public address to a private network and it can also pick up a dynamic IP address. I've never done it before but from the server console, look around in INETCFG.
To NAT the address, I can have a private ip address like 192.168.0.1 and a public ip address that will be dynamically assigned. How do I get the public nic to automatically obtain an address? Otherwise, I will have to guess at an ip that is not in use, and we are talking about an isp. Also, the public nic will need a default route, where do I set that?
On the client side, I will need a default gateway, is that the ip of my public nic.
Many thanks.
I also realize I can ping random addresses until I find one. But dynamically would be better for me. I know NICE would be a solution but I do not have the small business version of Netware 6. Does anyone know where I can download NICE? Is it native to Netware 6? I think I have the enterprise edition of Netware.
Thanks again.
I'm reinstalling the NOS and it is asking me to input an ip address for both my cards, do I leave that blank for now and try to configure my binds for dynamic addressing in inetcfg?
