Hey.

I am configuring a small network and i am having problems getting a group policy and the internet to work at the same time. The network consists of an ADSL Modem for internet access for the network, a firewall, a switch, 1 server and 15 computers. The servers OS is windows 2000 server. It is configured for DNS, DHCP and Active Directory. When I set the server or any of the local computers preferred DNS address to the address of the server, the computers will receive a group policy, but will not be able to access the internet. If I change the preferred DNS address to the address of the firewall, the server or computers are able to access the internet but are not able to get the group policy. I’ve tried setting the preferred and alternate dns settings(one as the firewall and the other as the server), but the internet is still not accessible. Any ideas?

Sounds like a DNS problem on the server--do you have the DNS set to the gateway? ie it should be pointing to the gateway/firewall as its dns. All other machines should be pointing to the server as their DNS. Also, have their gateway as the firewall(unless you're using ISA).
