Anyone else had intermittant one way speech issues with version 3 softphone?

Sniffer trace appears to show that speech is not being sent from the PC to the nic card when the problem is occuring. You are able to get speech back by putting the call on and then off of hold.

Any thoughts?

I am still getting one way speech.

It occurrs when a call is made from a I2050 to IP 1140e or from a I2050 to TDM set. Speech can be restored by putting the call on hold and then taking it off of hold. The problem can also be introduced by putting the call on hold and then taking it off of hold.

Strange!

Likely a QoS issue. Likely that your i2050 is calling from home or doesn't have QoS setup so you will have problems because the voice is not prioritized. Check that out first.

Thanks Tman...

This happens in the office on our LAN. The network has large capacity so there should be no delay of voice packets.

And like I said, you can create/clear the problem by putting the call on, and then off of hold.

Strange!

GAH!!! I'm a dork ... I was going to post that it is likely a MC32S issue!!! LOL! But when I looked back I only saw i2050 and IP 1140 so then I was thinking it must be QoS related. YES - definitely check your MC32 or MGC daughterboards. You could have one/or more that is/are bad. MC32S are huge culprits and we have struggled with them.

"It occurrs when a call is made from a I2050 to IP 1140e or from a I2050 to TDM set"

The thing I don't know is why you would get the issue when you call from the i2050 to 1140e. There are quite a few factors - the first would be where is the i2050 calling from - they could be at home for all we know, the second would be to see what codec the i2050 uses as it could be different than your 1140 and that can cause voice delay or other strange symptoms. There are more to consider but look at those first.

Best practice is to prioritize voice packets anyway because if someone pushes a large file it doesn't matter how large your bandwidth is - it can mess with your REAL TIME voice packets! They are highly sensitive man.

we r using the latest version of softphone too with no problem across a vpn connection with qos...but we did notice there is quite a difference in call quality with cheap usb headsets. use one that nortel approves. the docs have a list and they start at about 200 each. also we turned this on pc network card and it helped:
qos priority bit enable
Enables sending and receiving of IEEE 802.3ac tagged frames, which include
802.1p QoS (Quality of Service) tags for priority-tagged packets
