Hi all:

Recently I came across this machine; used to be high-end around 1997/8, dual processor board (but only one processor present), UW SCSI HD, etc, still in very neat condition. Has anyone tried to add a second processor? Inside, the machine is scares of space, which makes me concerned about thermal issues.

Too, anyone know whether SuSE's Linux Pro v8.2 has multi processor capabilities?

Thanx, John.

Hi,

Don't know this particular machine, but generally, for multi processor workstations and servers the processor type and stepping level must match in order for them to operate correctly.
Under Windows, you can find out this information from apps such as WCPUID or the command prompt (ECHO %PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER% under 2K for example), but I don't know enough about Linux/Unix to give you instructions to do so under that particular operating system.

Thanks, John.

Of course, the two processors will have to be rigorously matched, meaning that 2 new processors will have to be installed. This won't mean great financial effort, since Pentium 2s are very inexpensive nowadays. The Intergraph TD-225 is a professional, ruggedized machine and the one that I came across is in very good shape, at that. It cost about $4700 at the time (with monitor included), so it was meant for people who could afford really advanced machines. The problem, as I stated in my first writing, may be thermal, since the box is a mini tower and it's kind of cramped.

John.
