Hi

I had an old 1720 on the shell that I want to use for some testing.
There is two interfaces (wic's) in it, ISDN BRI and an ethernet 10Mbps.
Everything is looks good. The ISO is an old one so I upgrade to latest one that can fit my memory conf. (32 / 8)
BUT - now the problem .....
Where did my ethernet wic go...????
No configuration left in that interface and it does not show up in the interface list (sh int) not even at boot time list.
I have moved the interface to the other slot - no change.
Moved it to an 1721 where it works fine.
Back again to 1720 - still no do.....
Downgrade IOS to the level that it came from - still no do.

Is there someone who have seen something like this before and maybe also have a solution to this strange problem ?

Regards,-

Being precise, what image did you have originally, and what image did you upgrade to?

When it did working, it had ver. 12.2-2XK (as far as I remember)
It was upgraded to "c1700-k9o3sy-mz.122-37.bin" (limit 32 / 8)
...and then back to "c1700-k9o3sy-mz.122-23f.bin"
..and even back to "c1700-k9o3sy-mz.122-17f.bin" just to insure that it was nothing between those two versions that did the problem.
Yes - I "forgot" to do a backup of the IOS before upgrading it as I thought that it was just a "walk in the park"....as usual. :-/
Stupid stupid stupid me.....
I could go back to "c1700-k2o3sy-mz.121-27b.bin" but I don't think that the problem is here. A simple wic 10Mbps should work with all versions....
Is it possible that something is left back in the NV-mem that block the wic from showing up in the IOS ?
When upgrading / downgrading, the flash is erased every time ...

Your issue is the XK release, or lack of. The 12.2x XK release added certain hardware support - obviously one of these was the WIC-1ENET module. The Cisco IOS naming convention is a bit tricky at times. Although you effectively went 'UP' to a later release you removed some functionality that is only in the XK release. I suggest you download the latest 12.2 XK release or upgrade the memory and go for a 12.3 version.

OK,- thanks Andy.
I will chase the XK-release for a start and see what comes out of it.

Thanks again for your quick reply !
