Hello,

I have something strange going on with a Interbase DB (6.5).
When I look at the size of the database it is around 12 mb but it only contains 7 tables with around 2 or 3 records per table.

There isn't much data in it but a service is communicating with the database every 2 to 3 seconds and there are only updates performed to one table but not all the time.

It has hapened already two times that after a time period of around 4 weeks the ibserver.exe creates a fatal exception and the cpu keeps running after that at 100 %. Even after rebooting the pc the ibserver.exe takes 100 % cpu time.

Does anyone have any idea's why my database is so big and it only contains so little data and what might cause the crash ?

Greetings,

Pascal.

did u try to make a backup from your database and then
make a restore?.

No not yet but what does restore do ?
I have to know what might be causing the problem.

I did a backup and restore. Now the file is only 256 kb.
The system table RDB$PAGES first contained 3200 records and after the restore only 256 records.

Any ideas ?

Greetings,

Pascal.

Hi Pascal,

Usually, database growth without adding records means that you have some long running transactions that's keeping other transaction from overwriting garbage (to be erased) data.

You can use "gstat" to watch the transaction counters and see if there's a huge difference between the Oldest Active Transaction and "Next Transaction" (or something along those words).

Where do I have to use "gstat" ?
