INTERACTIVE and NETWORK groups

I just ran across some references that had me use the INTERACTIVE group to assign security permissions. I had never heard of INTERACTIV group. Ive always used EVERYONE for things like this. Can anybody explain or point me to any good references that explain the appropriate times and ways to use INTERACTIVE and NETWORK security groups? I did some searches at microsoft but didnt really find anything good.
