I have an exchange 2003 server that runs our SMTP gateway services.

I wanted to install the IMF and needed to install SP2 anyway. Since SP2 comes with IMF I figured I would just install SP2.

After succesfully installing SP2 on the gateway server, I now had an Intelligent Message Filtering tab in Message Delivery Properties under Global Settings. Perfect. I went in and set my IMF settings.

I then went to the SMTP protocol on the Exchange server, and there was no Intelligent Message Filtering node under the SMTP protocol, where all the documentation says it should be.

I then downloaded the IMF MSI from microsoft and installed thye IMF by itself. I rebooted the server just in case, and still no Intelligent Message Filtering node under the SMTP protocol. I sent a suedo spammed email and it came through fine, so I know the IMF is not enabled.

Does anyone know what I did wrong, or how to fix it. Before I start uninstalling the IMF and SP2, I figured I would ask. I really don't want to blow up this server and have to clean up the mess it creates.

Thanks in advance.

With SP2 the IMF is a tab on the properties of the SMTP Virtual Server. it no longer appears on the same screen as the SMTP Virtual Server.

just right click on the SMTP Virtual Server, choose properties. Edit the advanced settings like you would to enable user or connection filtering. You will find IMF and some new Sender ID filtering settings there too.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
