I have a box with an Intel 945PVS motherboard and configured for a RAID 1 system. Sometime recently I started getting an explorer window to the c:\program files\intel directory opening on boot. The only things in this directory are two sub directories:INFInst and Intel Matrix Manager. I have to manually close the window every time the system boots. It does however seem to be functioning normally in all other respects.

Thanks for the tip however that does not appear to be the problem. I searched the entire registry for "c:\program files\intel" and looked for any strange entries and could find none.

Nice program but did not see anything that jumped out at me. I do see that c:\program files\intel\intel matrix storage manager\iaanotif.exe is called at boot. Task manager reports that it is running ok.

I am not surprised that something from the Intel directory is being called at boot. If you could export these two keys and post the resuls back here it would help:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To do this, start/run regedit, expand the branches to each key (do this one at a time). Click on the key, then on file/export. Give it any name, then save to the desktop. Once you have saved both keys, close the registry editor. Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose edit, it should open in notepad. Copy the contents of the .reg file and post it back here.

Reboot and test.

Sorry no cigar. I should point out that the Intel Audio Studio resides in its own folder in program files and not in the general Intel folder that opens on boot.

Using AutoRuns, uncheck the entry that corresponds to:
"IAAnotif"="C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Iaanotif.exe"

Reboot and test. Please repost and report your results.

Unchecked Iaanotif.exe but folder still opens on boot.

I was afraid of that.

Did you by any chance have any issues with Norton/Symantec Live Update? Have you ever uninstalled it? Reinstalled it?

Never have had an issue with Norton LU.

I was going to send you running processes but can't find a way to put it here since I can not do attachments to the forum.

I think I have done all of the downloads and updates. I don't know if there is a way of comparing versions to see if I need to do more of them. In fact maybe this is where and when the problem started.

Could you Start, Run, services.msc and tell me the startup setting for:
Service: Intel(R) Matrix Storage Event Monitor (IAANTMON) - Intel Corporation - C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Iaantmon.exe

I believe both this service (Iaantmon.exe) and the Notfier process (Iaanotif.exe) should appear in your process listing.

Is it possible that it is missing from the Intel folder?

Note: The Intel driver was update one week ago on 8/1/2006

1. Just now I did one update for Intel. No change, folder still comes up.
2. The Matrix Storage Manager reports:Started, Automatic

Start, Run, CMD

C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Iaanotif.exe

What does it report?

Because it should appear in your running processes and does not.

It did not report anything. It did not give an error. It just looks like it ran. Remember a couple of hours ago we unchecked iaanotif.exe using autoruns.
