Can I use an Intel Pentium 4 (Prescott) socket 478 CPU on a motherbord with socket 775 ?

Nope! the older socket 478 CPU actually had 478 pins sticking out the back of it..... the newer socket 775 CPU's don't have pins at all on the CPU body.
Two totally different CPU types that can only fit on their respective socket versions.
As you have probably found out already, socket 478 motherboards are getting very thin on the ground to purchase new, Asrock still retails a couple of mini ATX socket 478 motherboards that are pretty decent all in one solutions (integrated graphics) the best is this Intel 865G chipset based mainboard.
