5 W98 Pcs sitting on a W2k server. On opening a particular sequence of programs (all accessing data from the W2k server) 4 PCs return an "insufficient memory" error - which may or may not hang the machine.

1 PC opens all appropriate programs and behaves impeccably.
All the PCs were previously attached to a Novelle server.
The PC that works has 128Mb RAM the ones that crash vary from 128 - 384Mb.

The number of PCs actually accessing the server at any one point in time is irrelevant - it is always the same 4 PCs with the error and always the same one that works OK.

The 1 PC however is the only one that wasn't put in at the same time as the original Novelle Network - is this significant - what do I look for.

The problem apears to defy logic - all application software has been unstalled and reinstalled - all suggestions greatfully received.

You could check the networking protocols. Novell uses IPX/SPX. Not really necessary if you are no longer on a novell network.

That's part or the reason why the whole affair seems so illogical. The 1 PC that behaves properly is the only one that still has the Novelle client and IPX/SPX protocols installed.

Surely this can't be relevant?

Try to remove and then reinstall the network protocols, IPX included, on the 4 computers.

ok, I was a little confused because in the first post it said the one pc that works is the only one that was not on the novell network. So it is the only one that was or wasn't? It would be if you are using the Microsoft client with tcpip as your protocol and it is not installed because ipx was instead. But, if the 1 good pc is the one on the novell side then no. I would not recommend putting the ipx protocols back in unless you are using novell. There is no need to have them. I think this is getting off the solution to your problem. How is the network setup? Workgroup server or what? How are the pc's configured? Are they all using programs off of the server or are the applications locally installed and only the data is off the server? Do the other 4 pcs login to the server and only have errors on applications?
