Hello,

Can anyone help me please?

I keep getting the following error message in several applications which seemed to be linked to internet access.

The instruction at "0x77f88a87" referenced memory at "0x00000018". The memory could not be "read".

This is very annoying and I don't want to have to rebuild the server as it's my PDC.

Has anyone heard or come across this before?

If it seems linked to internet applications, you could try a few things that are alot easier than rebuilding the server.

reinstall IE
remove and reinstall TCP/IP
remove and reinstall NIC card
Check all drivers are current

Also there is a similar error in TechNet that relates to Outlook 2000. If that is installed it might be good to try reinstalling that. Chris

The server doesn't have Outlook 2000 installed. Re-installation of IE6 doesn't work as it crashes with the same error. Haven't tried TCP/IP.

More information: The error causes a event log which contains the following information:

Event ID 1000

iexplore.exe 6.0.2600 ntdll.dll 4.0.1381 00028a87

Thanks in advance,

have you applied service pack 6, some of these problems can be solved by reinstalling service pack.

Internet Explorer (and other programs that create large temporary files) may not start or may generate error messages, even if there is enough RAM available. Such programs check for the ability to create a swap file as needed and may not run if this cannot be done. This error message can also occur if available disk space is low. Try increasing virtual memory if possible or free up some disk apace if it is running low.
Unfortunateely other software may be causing the conflict. I know that MS word generates a similiar error and needs a patch. Also your graphics card software may cause the problem, try reducing the number of colours or loading standard VGA drivers and try IE6 again.

For IE6 error reporting info check out
hope this helps
