Does anyone know how to set up Instant Messanger.

I'm sure is something in DNS but what I don't know, if you know please be specifie I need examples.

I will be very greatful if someone knows this.

Thank you.

evilBart, Great link I always wanted to try to set that up but never could find the documentation (or I was to busy and or lazy to). Thanks

Anyway I did run into a problem. Everything went smooth until I set up the IM router. When I went to choose the IIS default web site the default page was not there only my mail.domain.com site. The only way to continue was selecting that and I did. Does anyone no why that happened?

Don

Thanks for all of your input. I did finally figure out how to set this up.

dw1,

your default website was removed or renamed

that should be no problem, another website should do

/Bart

glad i could of some help ;-).....

Bart, I forgot to mention that that I had the option and choose the default web site when I created the instant messaging home server. But when tried to create the instant messaging router that the default web page didn't show up to choose. So I choose a different web page. When I run messaging I get an error about how it failed because the service is not running.

hmmmm failed installations, i don't like em....

try beginning from scratch to solve your problems

on several setups i had to start over 20 times to make it running,

make sure dns is okay

/Bart

Can someone give me some help on the client side setup? I downloaded what the white papers said and ran install but don't know what to do next. I am running on win 2000 pro client and have msn messegner 5.0 but it's looking for a hotmail or passport signon? Is this required or can I configure to go to my exchange server that I have setup according to white papers? Thanks Joe

On your exchange 2000 server CD drill down to D:\INSTMSG\I386\CLIENT\USA\MMSSETUP.EXE run that program. On one of the windows has a check box to allow you to keep it internal and not require you to have a hotmail or passport account.

Thanks for the replies but when I run MMSSETUP.EXE, it doesn't prompt me for anything. Is there a check box somewhere within msn messenger? Thanks again, Joe

Forget the last post, I think it was because I had already had msn messenger 5.0 installed so when I was installing the mmsetup.exe, it never really installed, it just looked like it copied files and never prompted for anything. But, when I uninstalled msn messenger and then ran mmsetup.exe, it came up and I saw the prompt for exchange server. Thanks, Joe
