Question 1) Right you can format with a 98 boot disk, but XP has its own program to do that into an NTFS file system and in some editions FAT 32 as well. I would advise NTFS though although some probs can be found with it with old 16bit programs.

2) I would say that a HDD with 98se on it and XP on the other should be fine just make sure that you have the BIOS to boot from the primary HDD (which will be the XP)
98SE could be included in boot.ini to make you a dual boot system

3) Problems to anticipate just try typing in FAT32 and Windows XP into the keyword box
This is the link i got

I think there are a few different errors that *CAN* occour

Hope this has been of some help

Would agree with noellees1 about point 1 - use XP's own partition tools during the install to create/delete any partition you need. With this exception - if you want to use fat32 and you want a partition > 32GB. XP can't create such a partition - but it can run on it (so use fdisk/format in this case) - though I'd recommend Ntfs (XP can create ntfs partitions up to several terabytes!)

What do you mean by second question? If you just want to connect drive with 98 on it, XP should see the drive ok (ie, you'll have access to its contensts from XP). But if you want to dual boot:-

1. If 98 was installed on drive in a different machine, it may not even boot in new machine (hardware driver issues) - but you'd need to try it out, to see if it sorts itself out & loads correct drivers (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't - you can help it along by removing devices in device manager while in original machine before moving it).

2. If it works, best bet for dual boot would be third party boot manager (I use - free for personal use). You can't just edit boot.ini (other alternative is creating a bootsect.dos file & then editing boot.ini - may be helpful)
