I'm using the Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller with 2 18 gig SCSI drives. I'm curious as to how I need to go about installing Windows NT on to these drives. Are there any user friendly manuals on this procedure?? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Don't know what kind of server you have but when you boot it up go into the SCSI config program. I use IBM server and for example, I have a cdrom which I can boot and configure RAID or mirror sets.
I am also installing windows NT 4.0 (actually Back office server 4.0) onto 2 36GB drives (mirrored) and I am using the adaptec 29160 adapter. The problem that I am having is that I can not get the install to recognize the SCSI ID 0 with a partition larger than 1024MB. It shows the drive as 35003MB in full volume size but it only allows a partition on the unpartitioned space of 1024. Disk 2 (ID 1) has the full volume size listed.
I have attempted to fdisk a small partition of 500MB and restart the installation but it will only see the other 524MB of space (this was a suggestion that I read on the windows knowledge base). I have also checked the SCSI bios to see if the "larger than 1024" option is enabled and it is. I am current out of ideas. Any suggestions????
Thank you for your posting. I figured a way around it. I used the SCSI utility and reformatted the drive. When I restarted the installation process the drive volume size changed to 8048MB. So I then created a partion of 4095 and installed Windows NT 4.0 on it. After the installation process I was able to use disk administrator to do the rest.
