I recently had to reformat my hard drive and went to reinstall windows and it gave me the SU0013 error messages. Im guessing I have to do a MS-DOS boot partition, can someone tell me how to do that?
As you have reformatted hdd and you've got su0013, I think it indicates you have your partition table problem. I suggest you consider fdisk and partition your hdd afresh. But it only makes senses if you have nothing on your hdd.
The main thing we don't know is that what brand is of your pc? Have you read Q188166 so that the idea of a ms-dos partition is needed comes to your mind?
Well I have a clone computer. I have nothing on my HDD, Im not sure how to use fdisk or even partition my c drive. Could someone tell me how or point me to somewhere where it would tell me how.
Ok, I have no idea what is going on. I formatted my C drive and when I went to install windows it gave me error SU0013 saying I need a MS-DOS boot partition. I dont know exactly where I would begin. I fooled around in FDISK and made a new Primary DOS partition (I think) and I know your supposed to format the C drive after you do that but I cant do it. A blue screen pops up asking me to insert the boot disk or Windows CD-Rom into drive D. Then I click enter and it just beeps, it must not be detecting the right drive or something. I have two hard drives installed and two CD-roms but Im not sure if that matters. Before the crash, A:\ was floppy, c:\ was my first HD with Windows, D:\ was my second HD, E and F were my CD- Roms and E:\ was an image file.
Im not sure if Im making a good partition or what. I was hoping someone could give me some tips or point me in a direction to where I could find out what to do
Assuming you havent made any changes to your IDE M/S settings and you don't have any data on either HDD then;
Use/Make a boot disk and use that to boot. Go into Fdisk and choose option 3 to delete partitions. Delete all the partitions you can find and the return to the main screen and create a new primary dos partition. You can then exit FDisk and reboot you P.C using the boot disk again. When it boots you then need to format your HDD. Once you have done this you should be ready to reinstall Win98.
I hope this is along the lines of what you were after.
I have a Windows 98 boot disk and have been using that. After I create a new partition it takes me to a screen where it says its ready to format my c drive. It tells me to insert windows disk or CD-rom in drive D. I have the CD in my CD-Rom and I have the disk in my floppy but when I press enter it just makes a loud beep and returns to the same screen (asking for me to put the disk in drive D or use the CD-Rom). At that point I usually have to press F3 to quit setup. Im sure if I could get that to work everything would run smoothly.
OK I got Windows installed, what I ended up doing was disabling my second hard drive and for some reason everything worked fine. However now I need to know how to get my second HDD up and running. What I did before I reformatted was put some information on the other HDD but now its not being read. When I try double clicking it it gives me "D:/ is not accessable, a device attached to the system is not functioning."
Any ideas how I get this HDD back up and running?? Do I have to format this drive to or now? There was no operating system on it so I would hope I wouldnt have to reformat it.
Check your cable connections. Make sure they are snug and that the striped side of the ribbon cable (pin 1) is correctly positioned when plugged into the harddrive (should be the edge closest to the power plug in (molex connector). Check BIOS settings also. Does the BIOS recognise the harddrive on boot-up? If this doesn't work start the computer with the start-up disk and run fdisk. Does fdisk see the drive and give stats for it? If not may be dead. Hope this helps
Im pretty sure the cables arent a problem as it was working fine yesterday. Also the BIOS is reconigzing it at startup. I havent formatted it at all and Im hoping I dont have to. Any other suggestions???
