Hi

I want to run virtual XP in Win7RC.

I think that I have the necessary files downloaded.

The files I have are...

A Windows6.1-KB958559-x86.msu

B VirtualWindowsXP.msi

As I understand it I have to install A first and then B.
Is that correct, what else do I need to know?

You will need to make sure that your machine specs will meet the system requirements to run Windows XP Mode. Check out the links below as they provide thorough details of this procedure.

Your machine has to be suitable to run "XP Mode".

You must install the Virtual PC first so that XP has something to run in.

Hi

Thanks for the information, I'll check all this stuff out.

Hi again.

It appears that my processor does not support this.
Thanks for the help, save me a lot of messing around.

If you are sure you processor is not on the list you can still use the older Virtual PC 2007. Even though I have "XP Mode" and uninstalled Virtual PC 2007 (to get it in), in Windows 7, I am not convinced that it was a good move. I found Virtual PC 2007 more easily handles older operating systems like 2000 or 9x which I occasionally visit.

Even if your CPU supports hardware virtualization some manufacturers disable it via BIOS settings.

This is not usually a problem except with some laptops where the full BIOS settings are not exposed to users. You might have to track down the "secret" repair monkey "handshake" to get into the full configuration screens.
