When installing SQL 2000 SP3 and SMS 2003 SP1.

Using advance security.

Server role: Member server

Should I be logging on as: administrator

Should I be logging onto the local server instead

on the domain.

Short answer: I would log in as an admin before I installed SQL and SMS. SMS should be a member server and be sure you install IIS before sms too :)

Long answer:

SQL shouldnt matter, as SMS isnt installed until after SQL is setup and it will make the many of the needed accounts and groups. (although I would be logged in as an admin as I always have and I personally wouldnt guarantee it would work)

However for SMS 2003 you want to be logged in on the domain with Admin rights. The setup will create multiple groups and users to say the least that you will probably want to extend your schema before during or after setup (I prefer before) in which you will need schema admin rights.

Be sure you get your naming right and you should definately do this on a test network 1st!!

Once you extend the schema there is no going back, however you can disable changes. (you dont have to extend the schema unless your going to use global roaming you can do this anytime after the install if you want.)
