At work I have to install a gage card that allows me to take readings from a digital micrometer. On the packaging there is a bright yellow label "Sensitive electronic devices. Do not open except at approved field force protective work station." There is also another that says "static sensitive". The IT department just told me not to run across carpet or do anything to build up a static charge before putting the card in. I just want to know a good way to ground my self or what I should do, because I don't want to ruin a 600$ gage card

Take the machine to the toilet or any place where the is plumming or kopper pipes connected to cold water .
Use a wrist band and connect yourself to it .
Brag about it to your boss that you did it at the safest way possible. You could also take it home sitting in the tub having a warm bath doing it with the equipment at the flor beside you.

Okay enough with the jokes , grounding your self to real ground with a wrist band is enough ,not letting is slip off at any time .

What kind of wrist band? What ground? You'll have to excuse me I'm new to installing computer hardware. Our IT department stopped installing hardware for us, so now i get to learn how to do it myself. I appreciate your help. Thanks a million!
