Hello,

I'm trying to install Red Hat 7.2 on my Compaq Armada 7730MT but after the PC card check, it gives me a blue screen. I took my only PC card out, (ethernet card) and tried again. Exactly the same thing.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for your swift replies guys.

In the first instance, I had a built in modem which I wasn't using, so I had disabled it in the bios. Now Red Hat wouldn't install as I've mentioned above.

SO: I went into the BIOS and enabled it. Red Hat installs fine! Great.

Unfortunately, I was short of disk space so the installation failed. I rebooted the PC and used Partition Magic to resize the partition and tried again.

Now I had enough disk space but the problem re-appeared at exactly the same point??? I tried several times and it just wouldn't get past that point. Straight after the PC card detection, it fails with a blue screen and a lot of hex numbers a bit like NT. The only change I had made was to resize a partion on my hard drive.

SO: I went into the bios and disabled the modem again.

Guess what? It installs fine. A mystery......

Anyway, thanks once again to both of you.

Couple of things...

On my Toshiba, I had to go in the bios and specify cardbus (or the opposite), not auto. See if you have any such settings in your bios.

Secondly, you may want to check out Mandrake 8.1. It is functionally equal, yet the install on my laptop was a breeze compared to RH 7.2. Really. I have no distro paranoia or bias, just some hands-on experience. I still use RH on servers, though I think the next one may be mandrake.

I really think RH slipped up a bit with this release, 7.0 and 7.1 were much cleaner in every respect.
