Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 server running terminal services amongst other things.

I need to install IIS so I've put the disk in and gone to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Add Windows Component etc...

The list has other items greyed out and ticks on some and ticks not on others - all I want is IIS to be installed.

Shall I leave these highlighted or not - I don't want to screw my server up at all. If I leave them highlighted it asks me questions about terminal services and prompts me to install dlls - I'm pretty sure this isn't necessary so any 'click here click there advice' would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Assuming a few things but my advice would be to continue with the installation as the already 'ticked' items are already installed and the ticks are merely telling you 'don't tick me because I'm already installed'.

But if you want to be safe backup your registry and essential files before installing. If something funny happens you can always go back and if you are playing on a live server there is no need for a restart but safer to install after hours if so.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

Hey FlyPuck,

Thanks for the advice.

I think I'll back up the registry (we already have tapes that back up all of our data every night) and give it a go.

Cheers

Chris
