Installing GBIC's on cisco 2950G 48

I am trying to set up a connection between a cisco 2950G 48and a 2950 24 ports switch trough the GBIC ports. But i can't get any connection between the switches. I am shure that I use the correct cables and modules. In the 2950 switch I am also connecting a 1000Base-T GBIC but even this wil not work.All the equipment are all brand new today and undpaced only hours ago. Do I need additional configuration on the switches besides the basic, before I install the GBIC's?

No, you should plug them in and away you go.... Are the GBICs being recognised by the switches (show int gig 0/1)? If you are using 1000BaseT GBIC's you don't even need cross-over cables but make sure you have a fully-wired cable. If you are using Fibre GBIC's make sure you cross the RX & TX around (RX from on goes to TX on other etc).

Cisco equipment is fussy about only using cisco gbics so if they are not cisco gbics it may not work.

Heres an update on Cisco 2950G issue. I have now tested the switch with three different GBICs, all brand new 2x 1000BASE SX ande one 1000Base-T. All of the modules are not getting recognized by the switch, I am getting hte following error:

GBIC_SECURITY_CRYPT-4-VN_DATA_CRC_ERROR: GBIC interface has bad crc.

Do anyone got any experience with this error?

Is it likely that all of the three modules, that are brand new can be defect? It seems a bit strange to. I have heard that this error can be corrected by upgrading the switch software?

Any suggestions?

Please post a sh ver on the switch. Also, are they Genuine Cisco GBIC's like viper has suggested?

Are the GBIC's 'real' Cisco ones? I remember something about non-Cisco GBIC's not being supported, however I have used other GBIC's in 2950's and they worked.

I looked up the error message on CCO and this is what it says:

Error Message GBIC_SECURITY-4-VN_DATA_CRC_ERROR: GBIC interface [chars] has bad crc.

Explanation The GBIC module was identified as a Cisco GBIC module, but it does not have a valid CRC in the EEPROM data. [chars] is the interface in which the module is installed.

Recommended Action Check the list of supported GBIC modules for this version of the system software. An upgrade might be required for newer modules. Even if unrecognized, the module might still operate properly, perhaps with limited functionality.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest IOS - 12.1(22)EA10 and re-test.

Burtsbees: The switch is currently running on SH Ver : 12.1-22.EA4. All of the modules ar genuine Cisco products.
