Installing Clipper 5.x on Win/XP

I'm considering - just considering - installing my Clipper 5.2/5.3 on my Win/XP box. I've heard that it works and I've also heard that it's problematic - horror stories of trashing the OS to some things don't work quite right.

What is the general consensus on trying to use Clipper 5.x on a Win/XP box?

I'm not locked into it - can program in multiple languages after 38+ years in the field - but always enjoyed the Clipper work that I did as a consultant. If it seems I'd be successful in the installation and in running Clipper apps on my XP box, great - if there's any danger of making toast of my computer ... well, I also have Delphi as well as VB ...

As long as you have the CPU timeslice release thing sorted then you should have no problems with 5.2 (I never went up to 5.3). Don't forget to set the files= in \Windows\system32\config.nt to a suitable level.

Clipper had a problem with releasing the CPU during wait states, therefore the CPU was always at 100% unilisation. Not so much a problem in DOS but in multitasking OS's like Windows it doesn't leave much of the CPU time for other proceses. From Dave Pearson's FAQ's:
