Installing Circuit Packs?

Avaya appears to have pretty limited information on installing/swapping service packs into the S8700, and I was hoping to get some fast input:

1. Does the system have to be completely powered down? The card I have has a 'grey' rectangle on the label, which would seem to indicate it can be installed with power on, but I thought I should make sure

2. Once the cards are swapped (all the pairs are already evacuated from the old Analog setup), what kind (if any) administrative setup do I need to do?

3. The Avaya site says to log in as "Craft" or "dadmin" and I'm not sure what logins those are, as I took over for a guy who left the company, the login we us is "cust", or am I confused?

You folks have been an awesome help so far, so I appreciate your patience while I ask so many questions :)

Also, if there's a quick and dirty guide on upgrading these cards, that'd probably be helpful.

Cheers, and thanks in advance!

The cards for the most part are hot-swappable.

The PBX will auto-detect the card, provided there are no existing translations for the slot you're putting it in. Do a list conf all and confirm that there's nothing showing up for your empty slot.

You don't need DADMIN or CRAFT permsissions to ensure the card was installed. Depending on the card type (if it's a station card) you can just start assigning telephones to it. Other cards will require more administration (C-LANs, Medpros, etc).

So what type of card are you installing?

1 Depends On the Card Analog, Digital line cards. Can be Hot swapped for like cards but it is never bad pratice to busy the board out first.

2 If there Is nothing built on the board you can swap out 1 card type for another usually without anything else. If swapping the same boards nothing has to be done for sure. If you have removed an analog to insert a digital and wiped the translations clean if it doesnt show up go to "change circuit packs" and manually input the information.

3 Craft is now reserved for Avaya, dadmin is reserved for business partners. cust might work if you have purchased the MSP's tru busy board thats the most you should need if you cant it shouldnt be an issue with a ssation circuit pack.

In this case I am installing a TN2224B 24-Port DCP Station card, but we're using the card to replace an existing Analog card in our switch. Does that add a step anywhere?

you will need to do a "list station port xxxx" (replace xxxx with board location to be swapped out eg 1a05)

if there are any extensions assigned to ports on this board you will then need to x-port these extensions and reassign them elsewhere

do a list configuration board xxxx to check all ports are now unassigned

pull the board out
insert new board

that should be it

Thats what I needed to know! All of the stations have already been evacuated off the board so if its just a matter of swapping everything, that helps greatly.

Again I really appreciate all of the great input and help from you folks!

Cheers!

Reviving this thread. Having some issues:

1. I busied out the old TN746B and made sure all ports were evactuated.

2. Once it was busied out, I pulled the board.

3. I inserted the new TN2224B Digital Line Pack, and used the "ch circuit-packs" command to give this carrier/slot the TN2224 B designation

4. Now that it is inserted, i've got a red error light on the card itself, and trying to do a release on 03C13 (the slot and carrier in question), I am getting the error "Board not inserted".

I've double checked the hardware twice, and everythings firmly in place. Am I missing something?

Try to reinsert the board. If it still doesn't come up it may be a bad board. If you have another one you may want to try it if the first one doesn't work.

It looks like that did it, removing the board and defining what was to be installed there *first* cleared the error and got the new circuit pack operational.

Everythings A-OK on that one, trying to pull the pack at our other location though, it said I had to remove all Translation before I could remove that board - - how do I inspect translation in place, presently there are no ports in use on the board; it is a 24-port Analog card.

As usual, you guys are the best - thanks for helping out so much :)

Run the "list con board 0xxxx" and see if their is anything on it. If not then it could be TTI or PSA holding you up. You may have to disable it in the "ch sys fea" if it still gives you problems.

Hmm, I show 00/24 ports in use, so nothings connected to it presently. I do know that this particular Cabinet serves a Hotel hospitality system - so maybe something relating to that system is hanging it up?

In regards to PSA (all ports show "p"), what is it? Still learning!

If it helps any, trying to busyout the board, all 24 ports display "ABORT" with the Error code 1010

Ah, that was because my predecessor had it in a busy-out state...however, it's says verbatim:

" " Must remove translation on the board before changing circuit-pack type

Meh - so it doesn't seem to be working, I just get that same " " Must remove translation...(blah blah blah) message, when trying to make a change in the system.

What are the potential impacts of turning TTI/PSA off long enough to work on this, and will the same problem crop back up once TTI/PSA is turned back on?
