Make sure you have backed up any important data. Insert your win2k cd and boot the computer. hit any key when prompted to boot to cd. hit next, the f8 to accept the license agreement. you should now be on the partitioning screen...select the existing partition and hit d (delete), say yes to delete it and l l to confirm. you should now be back at the partitioning screen. hit c to create, give a size and then you are again back at the partition window. hit enter and select format using NTFS (FAT if you really wanna)....you are one your way to a clean install.

Boot from either 98 install CD (pick the start the machine, not install 98 option) or 98 boot floppy. If you installed 2k on fat32, just run format c: /q at the dos a: prompt. If you installed on ntfs, run fdisk. Use its remove partition option to remove the ntfs (should appear as non-dos in fdisk) partition. Then create new fat32 partition for 98. Restart - boot from 98 install CD and use the install win98 option (if you had to create new fat32 it should ask if you want it formatted).
If you have any data on 2k you want to keep - backup before starting this as everything will be wiped out.
Just an important note for anyone using FDISK to completely remove a partition you need to delete it then turn your machine off, otherwise the partition will still remain in memory and the computer will still use it. So between deleting an old partition and creating a new partition you should turn your computer off.
Eonspeed - sorry - but that's just not true. You need to reboot after creating the new one - but there's no problem deleting and creating in one session, then rebooting.
Wolluf I have had problems doing just that and I found that turning off the PC garuantees no problemsm, it doesn't have to off for long 3-10 seconds will do. To be fair though it is mainly only an issue if you create a partition size that is different from the one you deleted.
