installin mysql

can anyone help me out here.
I've compiled and installed msyql-3.23.28
set to startup automatically and can connect via
the #

my deliema is when connecting via the web i get a
l something so.10 error
make sure dbd:mysql is installed.

I've downloaded packages but I cant get anything to work.

I've never used mysql and right now very frustrated with it.
can someone point me to a good faq/tutorial on installing mysql. I dont want to reinstall apache or php just want to add mysql onto it and use a web interface to input data.
