Does ANYONE know what would cause a program installed onto a Windows XP/Pro machine (formatted with NTFS) to NOT be seen by Administrator? I have installed the program using the "user" account, which has admin priviledges, but then when I log in as Administrator, that account cannot see the program. The bigger problem is that the users can't see the program, even if they are given full rights to its folder. I originally thought this was a roaming profiles problem (I asked this question on the 2000 board), but I installed it on a machine that isn't even using roaming profiles. Are there some older programs that just will not run on NTFS?

Please define: cannot see If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

When logged in as Administrator, the program does not appear on the Programs menu, and I cannot find browse the folder where the program is installed in Explorer. It's hidden, as if it's not installed. But, I know it is because I installed it from an account with Administrative rights, and it appears to that account (shows as installed in Programs).

Check with regedit to see where it's installed.
Look for a part of the name to track it down. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I apologize, but I'm not sure I understand. You cannot find or see the folder where the program was installed, but it shows installed via Control Panel Add/Remove Programs?

Do you have Windows Explorer's Show hidden files and folders option set (Tools, Folder Options..., View tab, Advanced settings section)?

Mebbe....
An association, thread, or program corruption in your registry is causing it to be hidden. If there is another program installed that has exhibited minor "flaky" behaviour in operation, (my own, poor experience) is that subsequent programs and operations can be overshadowed or crossed-over(huh?) and even vanish from the Add/Remove Programs folders only to reappear when eventually effort is summoned to rip out and re-pack offending progs. I spent some time researching this a while ago and find it only occurs where the programs' have a cold war level of coding to prevent piracy or user snooping. Sounds like Poltergeist really..

XPisfree, seriously, have you been drinking, or worse?

Freestone, Run Regedit and look for the installation folder of that app, THAT is where is wiil (should) be.
Never mind the Start programs, if somethings gets moved, you won't see it there. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

Just to let everyone know, I finally figured this one out. I had to remove all inherited permissions and apply full rights to all users to the folder and check the box to apply the permissions to all the children. Then, I had to find the .exe files right in the application folder (not in Programs) and create the shortcuts from there. Then, it worked!

Whew!
Thanks for all the suggestions...
