Is there a benefit to installing the recovery console on ones hard drive versus just running it from the win xp install cd? For some reason i havent much chance to use it.

I have read this:
and a few others as well, just cant find any info that points out the pluses and minuses.

thanks

Speed in a nasty situation and if you need it you don't have to find the Windows CD to install it.

It only takes about 10mb of space and it is always there if you need it. CD/DVD/Floppy drives sometimes break or die, CD's become unreadable too.

The only minor downside (which can be compensated for) is that it gives you a choice of operating systems to choose when you boot. The choice is between XP or the Recovery Console, as I said you can edit the length of time the choice is displayed before loading the default operating system.

I always pre-load the Recovery Console. I find the most common use for it is running ChkDsk in a non-windows environment. There are a lot of goodies in the full list of commands available.
