Ok here goes and I hope like hell someone has run into this one before....

Windows XP Pro SP2
All critial patches applied
New NVIDIA card installed

Tried to install a new program tonight but the installshield gets to 99% then just disapears. I checked the task manager and _INS5576._MP and _ISDel.exe and setup.exe are still running under processes.

Checked some sites and they suggested changing the user environment settings to point to a shorter path for a temp directory so I changed it to TEMP=C:\TEMP and TMP=C:\TEMP

The files remain in the dir after installshield goes away and the processes are still "running", except for setup.exe. I delete the files, stop the processes, reboot and try again but to no avail! I'm caught in a nasty loop here.

Anyone with any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I wish I could remember what installation was helped by this hint, but it wasn't a Macromedia app. And even if the fix doesn't help, there are a LOT of pointers here for other things to try. Go to Good luck.

Try waiting. For unknow reasons, I've seen cases where the installer takes a loooooooong time (so long in fact, that more than once I forgot it was running). It doesn't always happen and I never found a cause or solution, but it will usually complete if you wait long enough.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I was able to find a couple more things that I can try tonight.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Thanks Again
