Recently I have noticed that when I open My Computer and then right click a partition, that it takes 10-15 seconds for the right click menu to appear. Once I have gone through this wait time and if I leave My Computer open, then the right click menu appears very fast on any and all partitions, but if I close down My Computer, the first partition that I right click takes 10-15 secs.

In looking at what is on the right click menu I was wondering if one of these items could be getting data or whatever and causing this delay. The item I refer to is "Create Image" which is relative to the Disk Imaging software made by Acronis. I also notice that there is a process running schedul2.exe that is coming from this software.

How would I remove this item from the right click menu and would removing it actually remove it from having an affect to the slow times in bringing up a menu ?

I wanted to see if this could be done without deinstalling the Acronis Imaging software.

My apologies. I am not certain what is the issue.

Yes I have cleaned my registry with more than one cleaner and also done searches for remnants of software and hardware that was left after the components were gone or uninstalled. Found many things and removed them but the problem still exists.

I removed the printer and rebooted but that did not help either.

I created a new temp account and used the guest account and also the administrator account and the problem exists no matter what account I am using.

Thanks for your suggestions.

It's not something as simple as fragmentation or too many files in a folder, is it? Swapfile fragmented? Paths too deep?

Andy.

I FOUND the problem. My first clue was when I right clicked my Zip-250 drive and did not see all the things that I am used to seeing on the property sheet for the Zip drive. I noticed that about 24 hours ago but thought nothing of it.

I went to bed and then it hit me. I got up and checked it again, then remembered that I had deleted a startup item a couple of days ago:

F:\Program Files\Iomega\AutoDisk\ADUserMon.exe

When you install the Iomegaware, it gives you some additional tools on a right click of the drive. I deleted that start up item caused whatever to happen but it was along the lines of what bcastner brought out in one of his posts that got me to thinking in that area. I suppose

Special thanks to bcastner and linney for helping me try and find this rather than just reformat and start over, or restore and work upwards.

Yes!
A star for you WayneMan.

Note: even though the Zip drive had little to do with the hard disk, a right click requires (my opinion) a scan of hardware to handle Send To for any identified device.

If the Send To includes dead links (network) or dead hardware as in this case, there will be a noticable pause.

Thank you WayneMan. I have had the same experience: go to bed, and wake up an hour later with the answer.

Best,
Bill Castner
