I am using CR 8.5. I have a picture that will fit into the Report Header section. No problem here. But I would like it to overlap all the detail sections so that it fully displays when the report prints.

Is this possible? Is there a switch somewhere to allow for this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean overlap or underlay? If you right click on the section and select section expert - underlay following section, the picture will appear under the following sections.

Thank you for the response.

I tried that and I'm not getting the desired effect. When I place the picture into a narrow detail section, the whole section expands when I expand the picture. It (the picture) will not grow outside of the section that it is in.

Is there another setting, or something?

I really do think Gary's underlay response is what you need.

You don't want to be placing the image in your details section. Place the picture in your report header or page header, and in the section expert, activate Underlay Following Sections. Providing the image is big enough, it will continue throughout your details section.

If your details section spans several pages, you may need to place the image in your page header, and simply have it repeat on each page.

If Underlay is not what you need, explain how it is not achieving what you want.

Naith/Gary,

I have a picture that is a large message that I want placed along the right-hand side of the outputted page. I would like it to span the detail sections, since this is the middle of the outputted page.

Currently it sits in the Page Header section. If I activate the UnderLay Following Sections option in the PH section all the results from the detail sections prints out in the PH section of the outputted page. Why? And the picture stays in the PH area.

All your details can't be printing out in the page header, or you would only be seeing one record - as that's, in essence, all that can be reported by the page header.

It's difficult to envisage what you're saying the problem is without you posting an example, but what should be happening is that you drop your detail fields in the details section, and the message you are for some reason storing as a jpeg or bmp in the page header set to underlay. When I try this, I get the image down one side of the report, and a full set of records on the other side.

You cannot achieve this by dropping the full size image in a recurring section of the report - without forcing each repeated instance of the section to increase in size.

Post an example of your data and it's presentation if you are still encountering problems.
