I'm planning to upgrade my NWSB 6.0.5 server to NWSB 6.5

Can anyone tell me if there are any pit falls to watch out for or point me to a document that will guide me thru this process. I'm planning on doing an inplace upgrade since I'm not upgrading the hardware so should there be any problems..

Thanks..

In my opinion, you'd be better off to install it clean. There are so many things that are different between the two that you could make a mess if you just upgrade.

HI MSW
You have to use migration wizard included on installaton CD1 Operating system. Run it on workstation or from console1 on server it's prepare you server step by step and check for any problems to solve. Last month I made migration in place from NW 5.1 SBS to NW6.5 SBS and after 3 hours everything was OK.
Good luck

Marvin, when you say install it clean what exactly do you mean? Are you suggesting that I completely whip out my 6.0 server then install nw6.5 on that box then restore the data?

Thanks...Scott

You can certainly do an inplace upgrade.. The NetWare 6.5 install handles it really well. But you get a lot of slop left over from NetWare 6.0 when you do it this way. There are quite a few things that change, so that's why I say this.

I don't know if I like the idea of wiping out the server either. That's risky even if you have a backup and still a lot of work. It would be better if you had a different server you could use for a migration.

I see what you mean now, unfortunatly we are not upgrading the box at this point.. All I really intended to do was upgrade Groupwise on this server from 6.0 to 6.5 and got some information telling me to upgrade everything.. Is this good advice? do I really need to update my OS as well? I know this isn't the Groupwise Que but maybe you know..

Thanks..Scott

you can certainly just upgrade the groupwise thats normally no probs
not 100% sure abot small biz edition as i never use it but marv can cvonfirm

Thanks for the input..

Let me ask one last question on this then..

Do you think that I could purchase the NWSB6.5 Upgrade and only install the Groupwise 6.5 upgrade which comes with Small Business to start with then when we do decide to upgrade the box approx a year from now I then could install the 6.5 OS.. What do ya think?
