InnoculateIT v6.0 redistribution server not working 1

Just recently I upgraded our InnoculateIT v6.0 redistribution server from Windows 2K Pro to Windows XP Pro. The machine was reformatted and everything reinstalled from scratch. I then set up the machine as a redistribution server for our v6.0 clients and tried to download the new definitions. However, every time this is attempted an error message appears in the log file saying "Could not connect to file.", i.e. siglist.txt. Both the hidden share (inoupd$) and the file exist.

I had a look on the CA website regarding the problem and downloaded Service Pack 2 (QO33736). This had no affect on the problem but did manage to stop the Innoculate Admin server service. Every time we tried to restart it kept saying that it couldn't restart because of an unexpected error. I had another look on the CA website and found another patch relating to the service not starting (QO36457). I applied the patch but again to no avail.

We contacted CA via email but so far nothing they have suggested appears to be working. We have removed InnoculateIT v6 off of the machine and reinstalled it so that it's minus the two patches.

Can anyone help???

Many thanks,

Douglas

Douglas,

Have you made sure that the XP machine has the latest inoculateit driver update installed on it? If it doesn't, then you can get all sorts of wierd problems on XP machines.

Andy.

Hi

Thanks for replying so quickly. Yes, the machine has the latest driver update on it.

Many thanks,

Douglas

I ran into this very same issue. What I did to fix it was to delete everthing in the outgoing folder and everything in the incoming folder (except the backup folder) then did another download and it worked. Hope it works for you

Good Luck

To clarify my statement above, once you delete the items in these two folders download the newest virus definitions and then do the download. Sorry for any confusion if there was any.

Hi,

I am having the same problem, did anyone come up with a solution? I have tried updating the driver and deleting the contents of the incoming and outgoing directories as Glacierxx suggests to no avail.

I got instructions from the CA website to run inodist.exe from the command prompt which works, but NT/XP machines will not update automatically.

I believe it is something to do with accessing the share with USER level security, as the command prompt inodist is working, which uses SYSTEM level security.

Can anyone help?

Hi all,

I had the same problem here trying to connect eTrust 6 from XP to XP (while win98 systems haven't had any problems) and just found out the following:

As you wrote, inodist.exe works fine when started from the command line. This command does not run under SYSTEM but under the logged in user account.
So just change the service account for the "eTrust Antivirus Job Server" from local system to the user account you are running the commandline from. Or any other user (with or without admin rights) that is known on both machines. Restart this service and everything should work fine.
In spite of I succeeded downloading the signature files using a normal user account I decided to run the service under an admin account, just to be on the safe side.

Don't ask why it is this way...just wanted to let you know :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you... I wish I had found this post earlier as it was just what I needed.

Thanks -
