Initiating download from you webpage

I was wondering how places like real.com initiate download onto their client's computer ( the person visiting the page). The pages always pops up with a message saying the content was verified by thwarte and if you click yes it downloads some software on the clients computer and runs it. How can I accomplish the same in my code.

write your program, get it checked by verisign or whoever, put a link on your site to the .exe
