When I start my computer, it gives me the message:

"While Initializing device CONFIGMG: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer."

So I restart my computer, and it only lets me boot in Safe Mode. This happened after I ran Partition Magic to partition my hard drive to make room for Linux. What do I do to fix this?

(I'm using Windows 98 2nd Edition with an HP Pavilion Computer.)

check to see if both partitions are set active. Some software will not activate the new or changed partitions.

The partition program doesn't seem to have worked -- I can't see any changes in Safe Mode, either way. I can't run Partition Magic to check the status of the partitions in the first place...

same problem here...I had Linux and Lilo. Deleted all partitions, restored mbr and created single dos partition with fdisk. formated it. Now I am geting general protection error with any of these- win 95 or win98 installed. can start only in safe mode...I have Pavilion 7125, 133MHz, 1.5G, 32MB RAM... please help!

I Have used a prog called zero fil which normally cures this also there is athread on here some where that tells you how to do it your self from dos with the debug command

Hope This Helps
