Subject about explains my whole problem. They start up just fine manually and will run until the next reboot without a problem. Backups both full and differentials are working just fine.
Oh, This is a single server setup.
Any ideas? It is really not a big deal, because I know about it and only reboot after I do weekly updates. But I would like to know what the cause is.

If the single server is also your DC, you may have to delay the start of some services or use dependencies to control the startup order.

You'll have to read the log file. I had similar problem after install Exchange 2007 SP2. The "Information Store" and "Mail Submission" services would not start. You have to use regedit to change the timeout limit in my case. If you need the details for this particular case, let me know and I'll post the link.

Is there anything that is showing in the event viewer regarding these services???

Sorry looked right past that.

Here's the reg fix that I used.

I made servicespipetimeout= 60,0000 milliseconds and it resolfed the issue. How funny is that SP2 messes it up couple of services for sure in 100% of my 5 test runs. Oh well, at least they put out a doc to fix it. Hope this helps.
