Info about distribution lists

I am about to start developing a customized form using the contacts form in a public folder, saving some additional info in a database, and creating a distribution list with those contacts whom I want to send emails, but my boss is telling me that I cannot do that cause the distribution list has a limit of up to 255 users. Is it true?

I've been searching for info in MS pages, but I couldn't find anything about it. Does somebody have knowledge about this issue?
Is it a good idea? Should I go ahead with my idea?

The limit is way more than that. I think 5000? Not positive but I would highly recommend to nest groups.

Like All Users contains each DL for each office or something like that. Dan
