I put tapes in an incramental pool I've created, I'm setting the expire dates for the next day on these tapes but they will not be reused after a single use. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on or where I could start? I've done and double checked all the obvious stuff, overwritable after, retention perionds etc. and it all looks fine

Any ideas?

Thank you!

A tape will only be reused after all the images on it have expired. As default a tape will be writen too untill it is full, so could be used for several days. I have one with 270 images on it. So even with a one day retention on each image the tape will be held for 270 days at least. When choosing a tape to use for a backup NB will select the tape with the lowest number of uses if all other things are equal.

In my case even if I remove all of my tapes and only put one tape into my incramental pool, It will not be reused after once incramental write.

Are you getting a 96 error when the backup fails?? Or something more like a 52 or a 219 error? This could help narrow down your problem.

You can not force NB to use a tape again if the system does not like the look of the tape. I am asuming that you don't want to reuse but append to the tape.

I suspect you have a labeling issue. You may be issuing a new lable to each tape as it's loaded for a new job. If there are tapes with old lables around NB will ingnore them.
