I have a Quantum Valueloader(8 Slots) using BrightStor ArcServe for Netware v9.0 Enterprise Edition.

I have setup an Incremental backup with full backups on Friday. Once the week is complete, I export all tapes for that week and store off site. I then Import the next weeks set and continue.

Problem I am having is that my Full backups require two tapes, and I would like to use Slot 5(Friday1) and Slot 6 (Friday2) for Full backups. Since Slot 6 (Friday2) is BLANK, I thought it would automatically load Friday2 in order to complete the job. What's happening is that Slot 1(Monday) is being loaded and overwritten instead.

What I want is:
Slot 1 (Monday)
Slot 2 (Tuesday)
Slot 3 (Wednesday)
Slot 4 (Thursday)
Slot 5 (Friday1)
Slot 6 (Friday2)

Is it possible to specify In ArcServe Manager that a specific slot is used for a certain day of the week? If so, how do you set it up in ArcServe Manager?

If you want ARcserve to use specific slot you can group them by using the 'Device Group Manager'.
However, this will also force you te create mutliple jobs as a backup job can only be directed to one group and I don't know if this is what you want.

I'll read more on what you suggested. It might be another solution to my problem.

Computer Associate Tech support instructed me to enable GFS in my current backup, which will then create the neccessary media pools to accomplish what I requre. I also found this document and just submitted the job. I will keep you posted on the results.
