inappropriate ioctl for device

When trying to do a Oracle backup with a DAT tape, the above message appears on a Ultra 10 running Solaris 2.5.1 .

Please advise what's the problem ?

I've seen this message before when trying to mirror disks with DiskSuite. The answer then was to load the latest DiskSuite patch and reboot. I doubt that this will help you :-(, but it may give you a clue.
