Hello,

I am attempting to import an excel spreadsheet into Access. The spreadsheet has a lot of text in some of the cells which have been formatted with carriage returns (bullets, numbering, etc.)

Is there a way to import the formatting of the cells into Access or do I have to remove all of it in order for it to come in properly?

When I just attempt to import the spreadsheet from Excel into Access, a dialog box appears saying that "An error ocurred trying to import file xxxxx.xls. The file was not imported."

Any help woul be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I don't think you need to remove it. I would suspect it would largely get lost but not actually stop you importing the text. For example I think the carriage return appears as a square box symbol.

I would do a bit more testing to isolate the problem.

1) change column headings if any to have simple character names.
2) Put a dummy first row with alpha charchater values eg AAAA BBB CCCCCC etc. This makes sure Access doesn't attempt to treat columns as numeric.

3) Load just the first real row. If that's ok, the next 10 and so on until you see where the thing falls over.
