I know this is backwards thinking, but I have run into a problem where I have a .pst created by Outlook 2003 and I need to import it into Outlook 2000; however, every time I do this I get an error that tells me that Outlook 2000 doesn't recognize this file. Any help is appreciated.

In Outlook 2003, try exporting the pst file as a 2000 file?

I don't see that as an option. When I go to Import/ Export and choose export I only have a few options:
Comma Separated Values (DOS)
Comma Separated Values (Windows)
Microsoft Access
Microsoft Excel
Personal Folder File (.pst)
Tab Separated Values (DOS)
Tab Separated Values (Windows)

Unfortunately, when I choose to export as a .pst it doesn't give me version option.

Can you create a new personal folder in Outlook 2003 and choose the previous Office version? Then you could drag all the info in the 2003 folder to the 2000 folder.

If the file was created in 2003 then you cannot go backwards from 2003 as the file format changed because it now supports multilingual Unicode data.

The following from outlook MVP Patricia Cardoza may help though:-
You have to create an older style PST in Outlook 2003 and use that program to export the PST contents into the older style PST you just created. Then you can read the old format PST on Outlook 2002. Unfortunately that's the only way you can read the PST.

Thank you all very much for your help I really appreciate it.
Also ignore the repeated No, I'm afraid that option is not available.

I found a way around this:

1. In Outlook 2000: Export some items to a .pst file and exit
2. Open the .pst file in Outlook 2003 (don't import)
3. Copy wanted items to folders in the file you just opended.
4. Close the file in Outlook 2003 and exit
5. Go back to Outlook 2000 and open the file
6. Copy the items to where you want them

Hope it helps,
Martin
