Hi,

I need to get the user select the applications he/she wants when the report is generated. I'm trying to use parameter-->import a pick list where i have saved all the applications in a txt file(so that the client is able to add new apllications).

But, i'm not able to get the applications listed at client's site. I suspect its because of the path of the txt file is different from what i have set in my template. My client doesnt have a crystal report application but using a client which reads rpt templates.

Does anyone know where i can manually edit the path of the pick list in crystal report?

thanks!

The import only works at design time. It does not (that I know of) reimport the list at runtime. So the path is not saved anywhere.

I need to design my template in such a way that the user selects the applications and this should be updateable if new applications are added. Currently, i've hard coded the applications in select expert.

I tried using parameter where i created a parameter and defined the table and application as field.
I didnt assign any default values as i thought that it may pose a problem if the clients need to add new applications. Then in the select expert, i assigned the parameter to Application field. I'm also using a subreport in the template, so i linked the application field in sub report with the application field in main report.
When i run it, i was prompted to type in the applications...i keyed in the name of 1 application but the report generated for all the applications in the db.

wats wrong with my method and is there any other better way to attain the requirement below.

Requirements
-------------
1) User should select the applications themselves
2) the applications should be updated when new applications are added
3) The subreport should also able to generate data for the selected applications.

Thanks in advance!

If your not using CR XI then requirement 2 is not possible without designing your own front end or using a 3rd party application to view the reports.

When i run it, i was prompted to type in the applications...i keyed in the name of 1 application but the report generated for all the applications in the db.

you also said

i've hard coded the applications in select expert.

I hope you removed the hardcoded values before you ran the report.

I'm using CR 9 and yes i did remove the hard coded the applications.

How do i create my own front end?

You would use the RDC component which ships with the developer or professional edition. This can be used with development software such as VB, delphi, ASP etc.

My client doesnt have a crystal report application but using a client which reads rpt templates.

Can you explain more about this, ss this something you provide or a 3rd party.

i'm creating the crystal report template with CR bundled with visual studio.net 2003.

The template is actually created to generate report from symposium call center client. It uses crystal report to generate report on the call center activities.
