The company I work for has a wide variety of UNIX platforms: DYNIX/ptx, Solaris, Digital & HP-UX. How much of a good idea would it be to attempt to implement NIS with this setup. There are only a small number of machines, 1-3 of each flavour.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Seth Yates

The company I currently work for uses Solaris, HP-UX and AIX - NIS is fine with these three platforms. I would guess that as long as each *NIX supports ypbind, then it should work.

Keeping a single login for all machines is definitely a good idea ;-)

Hope this helps

Seth,

With only 12(ish) machines it may be more work than it's worth, unless you want to learn how to do it of course. Mike
