Hi I just upgraded my Exchange 2003 to SP2 and try to apply the IMF, after the IMF turned on, my user complained that his regular email goes to his junk folder as well as the junk mail; he uses the SPmbayes as the client software. Do I need to disable the client spam software in order to get the IMF work?

Many Thanks,
Steve

That would be a good start. Smack his hands and make him promise not to install anything on his PC again without your approval! :)

If using IMF then you should not use anything else on the client side other than to make sure you have installed the latest Junk Mail Filter (from the Office Update Site) on the PC.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Hi Mark,

Yesterday you mentioned about the backup solutions for the exhcange server? The recommended way to backup the Exchange is raid solution with dual disks; what would you think the right solution to backup the following: accounting server, database server, exchange server and the file server? I don't want to spend money to get the tape backup and then spend money to buy the hard disk solution to backup my Exchange server.

Many Thanks,

Steve

You can certainly use the same solution for everything. The larger the hard disks you purchase the more data you can store.

Please note that the direction Microsoft is going with this is to combine different strategies and one of the primary mechanisms is to use ShadowCopy.

Studies show that the majority of restores are not for total disaster but instead to restore files a user has either deleted or changed and needs a previous file version. ShadowCopy puts this restore capability right at the user fingertips without ever having to go to the admin (if you allow it that is).

You will want the removable drives for the total disaster situation.

For critical data you may also want to check out some of the online backup solutions. The intelligent solutions will do a brick by brick comparison of data, so it takes a long time for the initial copy, but then after that it only replicates the bits (and not the whole file) that have changed so it is very fast.
Although I have not personally used them, a trusted collegue of mine swears by Enveloc.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
