I'm trying to perform a restore from an Image level IData agent on our file cluster. All of the previous backups have worked fine, however, when I browse the data in the 'browse and recover' option, all of the files say they are 0 bytes. When the restore starts, it creates the file and folder names but everything is 0 bytes.

Any suggestions?

What happens when you try a different date for the restore ?

ps. was the backup succesfull or did it have errors ?

Same thing from any date that's available.

I have a bit more infor. It starts the backup, stays at 0% while it creates all of the directories and files (all 0bytes), then when it has finished, it starts recovering the data and the files start to grow. This wouldn't be bad if it was quick but a restore of 20GB with lots of files has been running for two hours and it still hasn't finished creating the directory and file names!! I need to restore 400GB!.

I wonder if this is a feature of the Image idata agent? Directory and file structure first then content. It might be quick to back up but it's painfully slow to restore.

The metadata is restored prior to restoring any files.

Unless there's something causing poor performance then you should see improvement once the files start being restored.

>>It starts the backup -->you mean restore ?)

--> I really don't know exactly how it works.... how long have you let the job run for ?

Did the restore finish at a 100% ?

How many files and directories does your restore contain ?

What kind of Idataagent is this ? windows ?

Thanks all.

Think I know what the issue is.

The previous full backup didn't complete successfully so all the metadata (the 0 byte files - thanks Birky) has to be compiled from the previous seven tapes before the data is restored.

An 85GB restore has completed successfully after 14 hours!

Interestingly, the restore progress stays at 0% until the job completes and the data recovered stats on the job details remains at 0.

Thanks all for your help
