I'm trying to import/link an excel file into access. But when I select the file type from the dropdown box I have a limited list (DB2,Foxpro,Paradox, and ODBC). Does anyone know how to fix this? Will installing MDAC solve this problem?

Make sure the fields are in the right order and of the right type in Access.

Highlight all the Excel data (no blank rows or columns. Copy data. Flick to Access, open the table in data view. Highlight new row, paste.

I can't even get that far.

I created a new database.
Clicked File->Get External Data->Imort

Now I'm at an Import popup window where I can select the file I want to import. The problem is under the file types dropdown menu Excel isn't an option. I only see DB2, Foxpro, Paradox, and ODBC file types. Is there something missing from the install? I reinstalled Office with ALL of the options but still can't import excel files.

DOHHH!!!! I meant Import of course!!!

Clicked File->Get External Data->Import

Is CSV on the import list? because you could save the XL file as a CSV (comma seperated Variable) file and then import it into access. works the same as an xl import. or even more desperate you could just save it as a txt file and then try and import that.

Nope don't have csv or txt either. I know there has to be something that wasn't installed properly. If anyone has an idea, I'm listening. :)
